Montreal's Special Historical Relationship with the 'Daf"

Maybe because Montreal was blessed for many years with a chief Rabbi , Rav Hirshprung , zt'l , a talmid muvhak of the Gaon Rav Meir Shapiron , the Founder of the "Daf Yomi " . Indeed ,in his beis medrash ,Rav Hernoch singer , has given a strong daf for many years.Or maybe due to his successor , Rav HaGaon Rav Niznik, who gave for many years , in the library of the Young Israel ,perhaps the largest daf Yomi shiur in the world , Montreal has always been a bastion of 'limud hadaf."

Even in Kollel ' Dirshu' an international kollel founded ,to strengthen the continuing limudim of baale batim, Montreal has been unique , in it's committment to the 'daf 'program ' and it's twin - the Master the Daf ,program. Rav Pinchos Williger, a talmid of the late Chief Rabbi and Gaon , Rav Pinchos Hirshprung, writes regularly in the Algermeiner Journal.His column , called "Daf Hayomi class" , in Yiddish , mixes in a wonderful fashion , stories of chassidim , talmidei chachmim and gaonim , together with extraordinary bekius in the blatt.
